Community Outreach
Neston Art Club
My community focused practice led to creating Neston Art Club in 2023, an art group aiming to create connections for older people through creativity. The group was formed with the support of Neston Community & Youth Centre where the sessions are held. Each week is a different activity aiming to explore different techniques and methods of creating work. It’s been an incredible experience to witness over the weeks, a community forging within the group, supporting each other and collaboratively making artwork.
Sponsorship from Liverpool Hope University
Neston Art Club has been given sponsorship for materials from Liverpool Hope University which also means that Liverpool Hope students can become involved in the art club. Students are invited to run a session, with all materials provided and support given to plan and run the session by myself.
It's been a really rewarding programme, giving students the opportunity to create a workshop around their practice while also giving the art club members new connections and new mediums of art to explore. All sessions are documented through Neston Art Club social media.
Together We Create Exhibition
In October 2024 we held our first exhibition at Neston Library, I chose the library as like NCYC it's a hub of the community so it would enable our art club members to gain more connections and also widen our audience to hopefully inspire other people. Artworks made from the sessions were framed and placed around the library enabling people to explore the library while stumbling across paintings, drawings and videos. Activity sheets were placed in the library to engage children with the exhibition.
What a beautiful show. Amazing work by all the artists- capturing not just wonderful images, but producing work that sings out of community, friendship and care. Really interesting innovative curation too. Super work, well done everyone - Curator of Learning Tate Liverpool
